The EtherCAT Automation Protocol (EAP) defines communication services and protocols that enable Master devices and Ethernet-based devices to communicate over a standard Ethernet network. While the timing constraints are not as strict as some other protocols, cyclic communication with a range of milliseconds is still necessary.
