CAN Interfaces by IXXAT supports new CAN FD standard.
What is CAN FD?
CAN FD is an abbreviation of CAN "Flexible-Data". It integrates CAN in applications which require a higher data transmission rate compared to the use of CAN 2.0. To achieve this purpose CAN FD provides a flexible support on the number of data bytes per message based on the speed of the bus. At the same time, the important properties such as low cost, safety and reliability are kept. CAN FD offers two important practical advantages:
- CAN FD can be up to 64 bytes per message, compared to 8 bytes CAN 2.0.
- FD has CAN bus speed higher increasing it to an average of 6 Mbit / sec, against a maximum of 1 Mbit / s in the CAN 2.0.
CAN FD also supports CAN 2.0 (A / B), and, of course, CANopen.
The main reason for the development of the CAN FD is to meet the growing need of bandwidth requirements. The starting point is the gap between the standard CAN 2.0 (1 Mbit / sec) and FlexRay (automotive, 10 Mbit / sec) or (Industrial) Ethernet.
CAN was invented in 2012 by Robert Bosch GmbH and its partners. CAN FD has now become the standard ISO 11989-7. The market for microcontrollers with CAN FD will be introduced during 2013. It will also be optimized for CANopen CAN FD and available at the end of 2013.

24 February 2011
Cambridge, UK: Keil announce multi-core debugging for NXP LPC4000 family of microcontrollers. The new NXP LPC4000 devices integrate a multi-core system consisting of an ARM Cortex™-M4 and a Cortex-M0 processor. This asymmetric multi-core system requires additional features from the development tools, in particular the debugger.
In the JTAG mode a LPC4000 system provides simultaneous access to the two Cortex-M processors using the ARM CoreSight™ debug/test interface. The Keil ULINKpro Debug and Trace Adapter together with the Keil MDK-ARM (Microcontroller Development Kit) enables two independent instances of the µVision Debugger to be run simultaneously. This enables the developer to analyze the application software of the two processors and to identify and correct complex inter-processor communication issues. Once these inter-processor communications are completed, the second processor may be seen simply as another peripheral unit.
Further code development can be done using only one instance of the µVision IDE/Debugger.
